Heroin
   

Heroin – Heroin also known as Diamorphine is a synthetic opioid drug derived from the poppy plant, as well as morphine. The drug is highly addictive and is rising in usage in our population today. Each year many heroin overdoses claim the lives of hundreds. Heroin is typically smoked, snorted or injected.

Heroin Abuse – Those persons who use Heroin are at high risk for abusing the drug due to its addictive traits. Users of the drug report a very euphoric calming sensation. Often time’s users of the drug form a dependence, and a tolerance upon it requiring them to use more in order to feel the effects of the high. Persons who use heroin often times become addicted to the drug within a few weeks, and may go from smoking or snorting to shooting the drug intravenously.

Heroin AddictionHeroin Addiction is defined as a person’s inability to stop using the drug despite the negative consequences they have in their life as a result of using the drug. Heroin addiction is at an all time high in today’s society, and considered and epidemic. The drug is highly addicting, and quickly forms a physical dependence on the body. China white, brown, boy, and skag are Common Street terms for the drug. Those persons addicted to heroin often times find they can’t quit on their own due to their bodies going into withdrawal from not using the drug. Individuals addicted to heroin many times must enter a heroin Detox center to get off of the drug.

Heroin Detox – Many times individuals that abuse heroin or are addicted to the drug choose to enter a heroin Detox center because they can’t stop on their own due to their bodies going into withdrawal. Because of the bodies physical dependence on the drug users must maintain a daily dose or they begin to get sick with flulike symptoms. Common withdrawal symptoms include shakes, sweats, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.

Heroin treatment - Choosing to enter a heroin treatment center is often times considered the 2nd phase in heroin recovery. Those persons who have been detoxed from the drug must now learn to live without using the drug. Often times a heroin Detox just isn’t enough to remain abstinent from heroin. While in a heroin treatment center persons are shown coping skills, and life skills, through group counseling, and individual therapy. Those individuals that complete a heroin treatment center have a much higher rate of remaining free from heroin than those who do not.

Heroin Rehab – Heroin Rehab centers specialize in treating heroin addiction and those persons who abuse heroin. Heroin rehab centers use many tools such as life skills coaching, group counseling, and individual therapy to help show persons how to stay off the drug one day at a time. In addition a psychiatrist may be on site to help with additional medications to help maintain a chemical balance of the body.
